Document Verification — What Happens?
After online registration, you must get your documents physically verified at a designated Facilitation Centre (FC) between 3 July and 13 July 2026.
What happens at document verification:
- Original documents are checked against uploaded copies
- Category certificates are validated
- Domicile and eligibility is confirmed
- Your CAP ID is activated for preference list filling
⚠️ Document verification is mandatory. Students who skip this step will NOT be included in the merit list and will lose their chance at seat allotment.
Understanding Your CAP Ranks
Once verified, you will receive multiple ranks on your merit card. Here is what each one means:
| Rank | What It Means |
|---|---|
| State General Merit Number | Most important — rank among ALL Maharashtra students |
| Home University Merit Number | Rank among students of your home university zone |
| State Category Merit Number | Rank within your reserved category statewide |
| University Category Merit Number | Rank within your category in your home university |
| TFWS Merit Number | For Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme applicants |
| PWD Merit Number | For Persons with Disabilities quota |
📌 Your State General Merit Number is what determines your seat across all CAP rounds. Focus on this rank.
Home University — Why It Matters
Maharashtra is divided into university zones. Some seats in government and aided colleges are reserved for students from the same university zone as the college.
| District | Home University |
|---|---|
| Pune, Solapur, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur | Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) |
| Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg | University of Mumbai |
| Nashik, Dhule, Nandurbar, Ahmednagar, Jalgaon | Savitribai Phule Pune University / KBCNMU |
| Aurangabad, Latur, Nanded, Osmanabad | Dr. BAMU Aurangabad |
| Nagpur, Wardha, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Bhandara, Gondia | RTM Nagpur University |
| Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Washim, Buldhana | Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University |
Knowing your home university helps you target colleges where your Home University rank gives you an extra advantage.

Common Mistakes to Avoid in CAP Registration
1. Wrong category selection Choosing the wrong category can disqualify you from reserved seats or lead to rejection at verification.
2. Uploading blurry documents Unclear scans are rejected at document verification — causing delays that may make you miss Round 1.
3. Wrong home university selection This affects which seats you are eligible for under the university quota.
4. Not downloading confirmation receipt Always save your registration receipt — it is needed at document verification.
5. Waiting till the last day Server crashes near deadlines are common. Register by July 6–7 at the latest.
CAP Round Strategy — Plan in Advance
CAP has 3 rounds of seat allotment. Here is how to approach your preference list:
- Add all colleges you would genuinely attend — from dream to safe options
- Order by preference — put your most desired college first
- Do not leave gaps — more choices = better protection
- Include colleges across categories — Open, Home University, TFWS if eligible
- Research branch quality and placements before ordering
💡 A well-built preference list can get you a better college than a poorly built one — even with the same percentile.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is CAP registration mandatory even if I have a good percentile? A. Yes — absolutely mandatory. No registration means no seat allotment regardless of your MHT CET score.
Q. Can I register after July 12? A. No. Late registration is not allowed. The portal closes on July 12, 2026 and there is no extension.
Q. Which score is used for CAP — Session 1 or Session 2? A. Your best aggregate percentile across both sessions is automatically used by CET Cell.
Q. Do I need to go for document verification in person? A. Yes. Physical document verification at a Facilitation Centre is mandatory between July 3–13, 2026.
Q. Can out-of-state students register for CAP? A. Yes — but they compete only for seats under the All India quota (15% seats in government colleges).
